Lately the message I keep getting from many different sources is the necessity for stillness to allow true guidance and inspiration to come through. It may seem contrary that I suggest stillness on this nearly full Moon May Eve since Beltane is a holiday of the budding and blossoming of the land again. Yet here in colder climates it is also the time for planting seeds. Before they sprout, seeds are best met with stillness. As we approach this next full moon in Scorpio on Sunday May 3, we have an opportunity to go within ourselves to explore our deeper desires. The Scorpio Moon lends intensity, emotional depth and passion for you to discover and affirm your dreams.
I present the following ceremony as a way to clear space, to name and to claim a wish for the coming season. I will recommend that you go for a viable goal, if you are a 5’1″ woman like me, wishing that you could be a member of the NBA is probably not going to yield particularly effective results, nor will wishing that you are suddenly a millionaire or married to your celebrity heart-throb.
Sustainable change is almost always incremental and it is by taking one step after another that we eventually reach a life far beyond our wildest dreams. This said, even one adjustment can be very significant and bring remarkable benefits. For example back in May 2003 I decided to stop eating white sugar (except in the form of small amounts of very dark organic chocolate). At the time it felt like a MASSIVE undertaking and definitely did not remotely feel like a small step. After I overcame the first few weeks of withdrawal and yeast die-off symptoms, surrendering sugar alleviated a great deal of anxiety, depression, food cravings, constant hunger, weight and inflammation in my body. In hindsight I know that this was the first of many steps I needed to take to find greater health and ease in my life but at the time it felt monumental. If I had not been willing to take that step, I know I would be no where near where I am today.
Planting a seed can be a metaphor for what we want to create. First the ground needs to be cleared of debris and weeds that would choke the tender new sprouts and stop them from reaching maturity. Then the seeds themselves need to be culled and only the most viable and healthy ones should be planted with enough spacing to flourish. Seeds must then be watered and nourished and after we wait for germination and signs of life reaching for the sun.
To benefit from the Scorpio energy plan to do this between May 2, 9:49 PM Eastern Time and May 5, 7:14 AM. The closest you can be to the actual full moon on Sunday May 3 at 11:43PM the better. This ritual will work best at night as there is an element of water scrying. Right before the full moon is best when you want to make wishes and build energy for new possibilities, after the full moon is better for releasing stuck patterns and letting go of the stuff that is holding you back. This ceremony offers a bit of both of these.
For this full moon ceremony you will need:
- A big bowl of water
- A packet of seeds
- A planter filled with good potting soil (or a place outdoors where you can plant some seeds)
- Favorite writing implement
- This worksheet (password protected, you can get it when you sign up for my mailing list )
- 2 sturdy note cards/recipe cards about 4″x6″ and colored markers.
Take a few moments to ground and center. If possible place your bowl of water where the reflection of the moon can shine directly into the water. (If this is not possible set up so that you can see the moon from a window, or if it is warm enough go outside! Obviously if the sky is cloudy or you can not see the moon, this ritual will still work just as well, you can simply use the bowl of water for gazing even if the moon’s reflection is not there. Set up all the things you will need before you and let yourself get into a comfortable position.
Think of this scorpio moon and draw the power and energy down to you with each breath. Breathe in the depth of emotion and passion that Scorpio contains. Welcome your connection to the Divine with whatever name or form works best for you. When you are feeling filled with the energy and intensity of this May Moon. Gaze into the bowl of water and let your mind become as still as possible. Focus on the moon’s reflection and one topic at a time read and consider your response to each question. Return to the moon’s reflection between each answer and allow guidance to come to you.
From the worksheet you should be able to distill two things: What step you can take to create space for the seeds of your wish AND What the outcome of your desire will be.
Now take your notecards and on one write what you commit to change or release. Make it a statement of action such as: “As of tonight I surrender all white sugar. I will seek support when I need it.” On the other write the goal of your wish. In my experience it is best when you write it as an affirmation of what you welcome or invite as opposed to making a statement where your mind can find contradiction. So an example might be: “I am ready to welcome a life ofgreater ease and physical fitness, I will take the actions to achieve this.”
After you have written your two statements on your cards put them in front of you and grab your seeds. Gaze at the reflected moon as you hold them in your hand. Imagine what your goal will look like when it is accomplished. Visualize this as clearly as you can. It often helps to speak out loud and narrate exactly what you wish to create. Tell the seeds your goals and dreams and tell your seeds what actions you will take to make this wish a reality. Take your time to be as crystal clear as you can be. Then take in a deep breath and hold it as you hold and firm up your wish, just before you can hold your breath no longer blow your breath and your intentions and desires over the seeds in your hands. Grab your pot filled with soil and plant a few of your seeds declaring what they represent. Cover the seeds with a light layer of soil (depth as the seed packet suggests) and then pour some of your moon water over the newly planted soil. Take the rest of this water and pour it into a glass and drink it using this to fortify your wish and your motivation to manifest it through your actions. Over the next few days or weeks as you wait for your seeds to sprout take time for moments of stillness and inspiration. Often listening quietly is the most effective way to realize what your best next step will be.
